On October 30, 2023, at 10:00 a.m.,
Police Colonel Tawee Sodsong, Minister of Justice, led the executives and
officials from the Ministry of Justice (MOJ), along with the executives of the
Thailand Institute of Justice (TIJ), led by Professor Dr. Kittipong Kittayarak,
Mr. Adisak Phanupong, and Dr. Phiset Sa-ardyen, to welcome His Excellency Major
General Dr. Abdulla Yusuf Al-Mal, Advisor to the Minister of Interior of the
State of Qatar, as the representative of the Qatari government and his
delegation. In this regard, the Director-General of the Department of Special
Investigation (DSI) assigned Police Captain Piya Raksakul, Deputy
Director-General of the DSI, and Police Captain Thinavudth Silapat, Director of
Foreign Affairs and Transnational Crime Bureau, to represent the DSI at the
welcome ceremony at the MOJ reception room for the benefit of cooperation in
justice affairs between Thailand and the State of Qatar.
Then, the Qatari delegation and TIJ
executives paid a study visit to the DSI Academy. The DSI executives, including
Deputies Director-General Police Captain Piya Raksakul and Police Captain
Wisanu Chimtrakool, together with Director of Foreign Affairs and Transnational
Crime Bureau Police Captain Thinavudth Silapat, Director of Special Operations
Bureau Police Major Suthotthawat Areerattananakorn, Expert on Foreign Affairs
and Transnational Crime Police Lieutenant Colonel Komvich Padhanarath, DSI
Academy Director Police Major Tharuetawan Vanaphat and DSI officials welcomed
the Qatari delegation and TIJ executives. Police Captain Piya Raksakul, Deputy
Director-General of the DSI, delivered a welcome remarks to the visiting
delegation. Afterwards, there was a briefing on the mission, trends in special
crimes, and cooperation with foreign law enforcement agencies by the Director
of Foreign Affairs and Transnational Crime Bureau. The Director of the DSI
Academy presented a summary of the structure, mission, results of training
cooperation with domestic and foreign agencies, as well as the training
facilities of the DSI Academy, which can accommodate the training of officials
from law enforcement agencies both in Thailand and from overseas. Then, the
visiting delegation was shown a demonstration of tactical shooting and a
demonstration of hostage rescue led by the Director of the Special Operations
Bureau.
Then, the heads of the two sides
exchanged souvenirs. The head of the Qatari delegation thanked the DSI for the
warm welcome and expressed interest in the mission and powers of the DSI, which
is different from the mission of other law enforcement agencies in Thailand.
This meeting was held in a very friendly spirit, which has led to the future
development of relations between the DSI and the Ministry of Interior of the
State of Qatar in coordinating cooperation in training, human resource
development, and other areas of mutual interest. The head of the Qatari
delegation also extended an invitation for the DSI executives to visit the
State of Qatar in early 2024 to further the cooperation.
In addition, the DSI provided a law
enforcement escort to facilitate the local journeys of the Qatari delegation
throughout their stay in Thailand.
