Today, Monday, January 31, 2022, at 2.30 p.m., the Department of Special Investigation (DSI), by its Director-General Mr. Triyarith Temahivong, and the Royal Forest Department (RFD), by its Director-General Mr. Surachi Ajonbun, sign a Memorandum of Understanding on Working Cooperation for Prevention and Suppression of Offences Relating to Natural Resources and Environment. The signing ceremony conducted online via the WebEx application is aimed at strengthening working cooperation between the DSI and the RFD, supporting their personnel, exchanging, retaining and utilizing information, including training and participation of the public which will increase the potential of preventing and suppressing natural resources and environment-related crime and improve competence in law enforcement for efficient investigation and inquiry.
Mr. Triyarith Temahivong stated that the DSI has prioritized investigation and inquiry into natural resources and environment-related crime since the promulgation of the Special Case Investigation Act, B.E. 2547 (2004). The DSI investigated significant natural resources cases committed by influential criminals. There were lots of trespasses on the national reserved forest’s areas. Subsequently, the ministerial regulations on special case proceedings were additionally issued, such as the offences relating to forestry, national reserved forest, national park and wildlife conservation and protection, for further flexibility and rapidity of investigation and inquiry into the aforesaid cases. Due to its various aspects of cooperation with the Royal Forest Department since the past, today, the DSI, therefore, entered into this memorandum of understanding as the official working cooperation between the DSI and the RFD for further enhancing their efficient law enforcement capacity and personnel development.
