On February 11, 2022, the Office of Special Case Interdisciplinary of the Department of Special Investigation sent its letter inviting the employees of 3 mobile phone service providers, consisting of DTAC, TrueMove and AIS, to inspect SIM cards registered of mobile phones, the exhibits searched and seized by the DSI in its special case no. 118/2565.
This inspection resulted from the DSI inviting representatives of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunication Commission and the mobile phone service providers to attend the meeting on January 26, 2022 for discussion about legal and technical rules for SIM cards registration and solutions to the problem of SIM cards used for crime commission, especially the form of the Internet used for crime commission whether by VoIP call or Internet phone calls for anonymity purpose. The DSI then requested support in terms of technical employees and special equipment from the said mobile phone service providers for jointly inspecting SIM cards used as evidence of the case and supporting its investigation and inquiry due to this significant matter having impact on the public order and security of the nation.
