On Monday, March 25, 2019, 2:00 p.m., at the DSI, Pol.Lt.Col.Prakorn Sucheevakun (a Deputy Director-General of the DSI) and Pol.Col.Akarapol Punyopashtambha (the Director of Foreign Affairs and Transnational Crime Bureau) welcomed Dr.Senthil Velan, a counsellor stationed at the Embassy of India in Bangkok who paid a courtesy visit to introduce himself and discuss the way to enhance cooperation against transnational crimes with the DSI.
In the discussion, the DSI and Dr.Senthil Velan agreed to develop their cooperation on training in technologies employed in investigating transnational crime cases, and exchange their intelligence. As a counsellor of the Embassy of India in Bangkok, Dr.Senthil Velan also expressed his wish to establish a memorandum of understanding on cooperation against transnational crimes with the DSI, especially dismantling money laundering, currency fraud, human trafficking, narcotics, and wildlife and natural resources smuggling
At present, security cooperation between Thailand and India is in accordance with the frameworks of the BIMSTEC Joint Working Group on Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime, the treaty on mutual legal assistance in criminal matters between Thailand and India, and the treaty on extradition between Thailand and India, etc.
