On July 19, 2019, at the Office of the Narcotics Control Board, the DSI's Deputy Director-General Mr.Triyarith Temahivong, and Pol.Col.Akarapol Punyopashtambha (the Director of Foreign Affairs and Transnational Crime Bureau) attended a meeting of the executives of Thai and Australian law enforcement agencies, the group known as Taskforce Storm responsible for operations to dismantle narcotics and transnational crimes. The Taskforce Storm was set up in 2016 aimed at strengthening cooperation in fighting against narcotics and transnational crimes by its members comprising of 4 Thai and 1 Australian law enforcement agencies, namely the DSI, the Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB), the Royal Thai Police (RTP), the Anti-Money Laundering Office (AMLO)) and the Australian Federal Police (AFP).
The meeting discussed the past performance of Taskforce Storm, laid down a guideline for joint operations, and agreed to intensify its cooperation in terms of human resource development, intelligence exchanges, and assistance in equipment for evidence examination and analysis including the extension of its operations for 2 years.
After the meeting, the DSI's Deputy Director-General Mr.Triyarith Temahivong signed in an Agreement on Extension of Thai-Australian Taskforce Storm Operations to Combat Narcotics and Transnational Crime. Under the agreement, the Taskforce Storm's operations will extend over a period of 24 months.
