DSI exchanged its human trafficking case information with the UAE

 

On January 20-25, 2019, the DSI's special case inquiry official team responsible for the special case no.143/2561 (Thai women being lured into forced prostitution in the United Arab Emirates) visited the UAE for collecting information about its case.

The team led by Pol.Maj.Arit Tatsaphan (Head of Human Trafficking Crime Division 3, Human Trafficking Crime Bureau of the DSI) and Mr.Aphichai Thongprasom (Provincial Chief Public Prosecutor attached to the Office of the Attorney General) paid a courtesy call on H.E. Ahmed Abdul Rahman Al Jarman (Assistant Minister for Human Rights and International Law at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation as the Deputy Head of the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking (NCCHT) of the UAE) and discussed the implementation under a Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in Combatting Human Trafficking between the Governments of Thailand and the United Arab Emirates.

 

 

In Dubai, the team met with representatives from the Federal Investigation Department and the Dubai Police Human Trafficking Crime Control Center (HTCCC) to exchange information about offences relating to the special case no.143/2561 and then visited the crime scene for gathering information.

 

 

The team also visited 2 agencies responsible for protecting and assisting victims of trafficking in persons, namely the EWA Shelter for Victims of Human Trafficking and the Dubai Foundation for Women and Children, for seeking information in order to help victims of human trafficking in particular Thai women lured into forced labor or prostitution including information of the victims in the DSI's special case no.143/2561, and for exchanging knowledge and experiences of assisting and caring victims in cases of Thailand and the UAE.
