DSI met with law enforcement agencies in the Netherlands for cooperation in investigating human trafficking and smuggling cases.

 

 

On August 11-18, 2018 in Utrecht and Amsterdam, the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the DSI's delegation met with experts and law enforcement agencies responsible for handing human trafficking and smuggling cases as invited by the Embassy of the Netherlands in Bangkok. The meetings were aimed at exchanging knowledge of policies and frameworks for actions under the laws relating to the offences of human trafficking of Thailand and the Netherlands, sharing information and cooperating investigations into case of transnational human trafficking in order to increase the knowledge and the skill of coordination with other related agencies, including the procedure and practice applied to the injured persons and the proper and required assistance provided to them. The meetings as the forums for discussion made the officials of both countries to learn duties of each other and generated close cooperation.

 

 

The following activities occurred on the said dates, 

1. The DSI delegation paid a courtesy call on Mr.Herman Bolhaar (the National Rapporteur on Trafficking in Human Beings and Sexual Violence against Children) and W.J.B. Warner Ten Kate (the National Public Prosecutor for Trafficking in Human Beings and People Smuggling) for discussion about the human trafficking situations in Thailand and the Netherlands.

2. The DSI delegation attended a meeting for human trafficking discussion with Mr.Tamme de Leur and his team at University of Applied Sciences Ede.

3. The DSI delegation observed the command system in the National Operation Room of the Netherlands' National Police Corps (Korps National Politie) authorized to give directives to the police nationwide to respond to crimes that happen either serious crime, terrorism, or assassination.

4. The DSI delegation met with Dr.Linda Terpstra (the expert on minors and adult victims) and the Fler Foundation (the non-government organization financial supported by the government of the Netherlands) for discussion on the care, protection, treatment and rehabilitation provided to the victims of  human trafficking, violence and cruelty, including legal assistance.

 

 

Information obtained from the meetings will be of use for the DSI's Bureau of Human Trafficking Crime to improve its work procedures and to integrate its work and resources with the agencies responsible for countering human trafficking of the Netherlands for the benefit of both countries.
