International Justice Mission and Walmart Foundation appreciated good cooperation of the DSI in fight against human trafficking
On June 14, 2019, at the DSI, Pol.Lt.Col.Prakorn Sucheevakun (a Deputy Director-General) welcomed the representatives of International Justice Mission (IJM) Mr.Andrey Sawchenko (IJM Field Officer Director), and the US Walmart Foundation Ms.Karrie Denniston (Senior Director of Walmart Foundation) and their team who visited the DSI to express their appreciation for good cooperation of the DSI to combat trafficking for forced labor on fishing boats.
The DSI's Bureau of Human Trafficking Crime succeeded in handling its special case no.12/2018 (a case of Cambodian labor lured to forced labor on a fishing boat in Malaysian territorial waters). The Bureau's investigation and inquiry resulted in the prosecution against 4 Cambodian alleged offenders/traffickers wanted on the arrest warrants issued by the Criminal Court of Thailand. One of the accused arrested in Thailand was sentenced for trafficking in persons. For the 3 escaped alleged offenders, they are being prosecuted in Cambodia. The DSI already submitted its request for their extradition to the Office of the Attorney.
