DSI joined meeting and press conference on Emergency Decree on Online Crime

                  On 17 March 2023 at 10.00 am at the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (MDES), DSI Deputy Director General Police Captain Piya Raksakul, assigned by Director General Police Major Suriya Singhakamol, participated in a meeting and the following joint press conference with representatives from MDES, Royal Thai Police, Office of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission, Bank of Thailand, Thai Bankers’ Association and Anti-Money Laundering Office. The meeting and the press conference that followed was chaired by the Permanent Secretary for MDES.

 

                  The meeting focused on the enactment of an Emergency Decree to fight online crime.  Setting out measures for prevention and suppression of cyber crime, the Emergency Decree is aimed at protecting innocent members of the public from fraud committed over the phone or electronic means, which has cost many victims several thousands, if not millions, of baht in damage. Published in the Royal Thai Government Gazette and in effect from 17 March 2023 onwards, the law is also intended to safeguard the nation’s security, public safety and economic stability.
