DSI conferred with public prosecutors to investigate and inquire into luxury car cases

 

 

       The Justice Minister Mr. Somsak Thepsuthin delivered his policy and explicitly instructed the DSI to urgently take actions against the offences relating to importation of cars from overseas into the Kingdom by tax evasion (the luxury car cases) for instant completion.

       Today, (February 3, 2022), 10.00 a.m. at the DSI, 8th floor, Ratthaprasasanabhakti Building, Government Complex (Building B), Mr. Triyarith Temahivong (the Director-General of the DSI) and his deputy Pol.Lt.Col. Phayao Thongsen as the Head of the special case inquiry official team, and the special case inquiry official team responsible for the case of 854 luxury cars imported into the Kingdom for duty evasion (known as the luxury car cases) attended the meeting with Mr. Watcharin Panurat (the Executive Director of Investigation 2), Mrs. Natthapan Wanpuetch (the Provincial Public Prosecutor attached to the Office of the Attorney General), and Mr. Chatpanai Rattanapan (the Expert Public Prosecutor, Department of Investigation) assigned by the Attoney General to inquire with the special case inquiry official team responsible for this case, for prosecutions against 114 car importers.

       The meeting discussed the guidelines and issues of investigation, steps and procedures of investigation and inquiry, including the legal matters relating to the case. Subsequently, the DSI will urge its 10 investigation and inquiry operation teams to take actions according to the meeting’s resolution. Today, the Director-General of the DSI repeatedly ordered his officials to take action against the offenders by enforcing every related law and making rapid concrete results with transparency and accountability. In this case, the car importers defrauded tax and duties of importing cars totaling 2,600 million baht. According to the Customs Act, B.E. 2560 (2017), the offenders shall be liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 10 years and a fine not exceeding 4 times of an additional duty, and other related offences. For the said case, the state will receive a fine totaling over 10,000 million baht.
