Justice has assigned the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) to dispatch
representatives to attend the
international meeting AICHR
Consultation on Freedom of Opinion and Expression (FOE) in ASEAN 2023 in
Jakarta, Indonesia and to participate in presentation on the topic of
"Sharing Practices, Experiences, Challenges in Dealing with the Spread of
Hate Speech, Misinformation, and Disinformation in the era of post-pandemic:
Freedom of opinion and expression and the digitally connected ASEAN community
in the post-pandemic era: challenges, opportunities, and future pathways.
The Director-General of the DSI then
assigned Ms. Arunsri Wichawut, Director of Bureau of Special Case Management,
and Ms. Thamonwan Chanittaranun, a Foreign Relations Officer of the Technology
and Cyber Crime, as Thailand's representatives to participate in delivering a
presentation at the international meeting which took place on December 1-2,
2023, at the Le Meridien Jakarta Hotel in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Ms. Wichawut and Ms. Chanittaranun presented the mission, duty, and authority of the DSI, as well as the management and challenges in dealing with the spread of misinformation, disinformation, and hate speech against the DSI and Thailand. The DSI representatives also presented the government's policy of establishing a committee to prevent, suppress, and solve the problem of disseminating false information on social media. The news group deemed necessary for monitoring fell into five categories: natural disasters, health, economics, government policies, and online frauds. In the meeting, the DSI's mission of preventing and suppressing online frauds was greatly focused on, and viewed as complex yet essential.
