Under the policy of the Justice Minister, Mr. Somsak Thepsuthin, to strictly suppress the infringement of intellectual property rights, the DSI quickly investigated and gathered evidence, then discovered imports and sales of goods bearing counterfeit trademarks in Suphan Buri Province.
Yesterday (Monday, June 27, 2022), Mr. Triyarith Temahivong (Director-General) assigned Pol.Maj. Yuthana Praedam (Deputy Director-General) to order Mr. Woraphot Maihom (Deputy Director of Bureau of Regional Operation) and Mr. Taewa Chularee (Head of Special Case Operation Center Region 7) to search 2 locations storing counterfeit trademark products, a warehouse and a house in Mueang District, Suphan Buri Province, by virtue of search warrants of the Central Intellectual Property and International Trade Court. The team found products bearing counterfeit trademarks of multiple brands, namely, Louis, MCM, Doir, Chanel, etc., worth around 30 million baht of damage.
The said case may be an offence under the Trademark Act B.E. 2534 (1991), which is likely to be a criminal offence prescribed by the laws provided in the annex attached to the Special Case Investigation Act, B.E. 2547 (2004) and its amendment, and the Notification of the Board of Special Case (No.8) B.E. 2565 (2022) on Determination of the Nature of Crime Regarded as the Special Case Under Section 21 paragraph one (1) of the Special Case Investigation Act, B.E. 2547 (2004). The team will investigate to find facts and propose the matter to the Director-General for considering reasons and conditions to accept the case as a special case of the DSI.
The DSI prioritized the prevention and suppression of intellectual property rights infringement, due to the placement of Thailand on the Watch List (WL) for the intellectual property rights issue by the United States Trade Representative (USTR). The DSI has its policy to prevent and suppress intellectual property rights infringement intensely. The DSI will further investigate and arrest intellectual property rights infringers seriously and decisively, both in Bangkok and other provinces.
