DSI Special Case Operation Center Region 9 and local police jointly seized large amount of marijuana valued over 10 million baht

Under the Justice Minister Mr. Somsak Thepsuthin’s policy urging the agencies under the Justice Ministry to speed up the suppression of narcotics related offences and the seizure of properties to discontinue narcotics trade for improving efficiency in prosecution against narcotics related offences that threaten public order and national security, the DSI, as an agency preventing and suppressing special crime, implemented such policy by assigning its agencies to promptly coordinate on intelligence and jointly operate with relevant agencies in preventing and suppressing such offences.

Recently, the Regional Operation Bureau by its Special Case Operation Center Region 9 reported that a large amount of marijuana would be smuggled from the central region to the southern region in the middle of October 2021. Therefore, the Director-General of the DSI, Mr. Triyarith Temahivong ordered Mr. Mahesak Punsanga (the Director of Regional Operation Bureau) and Pol.Maj. Pipop Marohabout (the Head of Special Case Operation Center Region 9) to coordinate on intelligence and join force with local authorities to investigate and arrest the suspects. Subsequently, on Wednesday, October 13, 2021, at 7.30 p.m., the Center joined forces with Pol.Lt.Col. Saranwit Teerawech (Investigation Inspector of Marine Police Station 2, Sub-Division 7, Marine Police Division/Head of Investigation Operation Team 2 of Marine Police Division), and the police from the Border Patrol Police Sub-Division 44, the Border Patrol Police Company 447, the Narcotics Suppression Division 4, and the Crime Suppression Operation Center, to arrest 4 suspects, members of the marijuana smuggling network, near Punnakan road, Kho Hong Subdistrict, Hat Yai District, Songkhla Province, and seized 5 packs of 40 kilograms marijuana in bricks (compressed marijuana), totaling 200 kilograms valued at approximately 10 million baht, 5 mobile phones, and vehicles for transporting goods. The suspects were detained for inquiry and delivered over to the inquiry official of the Hat Yai Provincial Police Station for prosecution. The initial inquiry found that the said marijuana was smuggled from the central region to the southern region in transit to neighboring countries. The DSI will further expand its investigations to reveal the mastermind of this network.

The DSI commits itself to suppress special crime threatening the people and national security in accordance with the policies of the government and the Justice Minister for creating the pleasant society. If people have information or clues of such crime, please contact the DSI via its website www.dsi.go.th or its call center DSI Call Center 1202 (free call nationwide). The DSI will keep the informant’s information confidential.
