On Wednesday 30 November 2022 at 07.00 am at Department of Investigation (DSI) Headquarters, DSI Director-General Mr. Triyarith Temahivong presided over the launch of Operation Electrical Shock. Also present at the launch were Deputy Director-General Police Major Yuthana Praedam and Police Major Worranan Srilum, Director of Special Case Management Bureau and DSI Spokesperson. Operation Electrical Shock saw searches jointly conducted by officers from DSI’s Bureau of Technology and Cyber Crime, Central Institute of Forensic Science, Customs Department, Metropolitan Electricity Authority and Provincial Electricity Authority on 41 commercial buildings in Bangkok and Nonthaburi suspected of electricity theft for crypto-mining purpose, costing the state 500 million baht annually in lost income.
The operation was in response to a complaint filed with DSI in relation to the illegal unreported Bitcoin/crypto-mining activities with imported Bitcoin-mining devices and stolen electricity. As these activities have caused damage to the state, DSI Director-General
