DSI Surveillance Operations Team arrested alleged offenders
relating to serious narcotics offences

 

 

      Police Major Suriya Singhakamol, Acting Director-General of the Department of Special Investigation, assigned Mr. Withawat Sukantharos, Head of Surveillance and Intelligence Center, to command the Surveillance Operations Team to jointly arrest the alleged offender under the Criminal Court’s arrest warrant, in Special Case No. 32/2564, in which a group of individuals jointly committed an offence relating to financial transaction with its unusually high amount which is inconsistent with the income. It was suspected that it might be tax evasion, which is an offence under the Revenue Code, the Measures on Suppression of Offenders Relating to Narcotics Offences Act, B.E. 2534(1991) and might as well constitute an offence under the Anti-Money Laundering Act, B.E. 2542(1999).

          The Surveillance Operations Team arrested Mr. Khomkrit, the alleged offender of the mentioned special case, according to the Criminal Court’s Arrest Warrant No. 446/2565, at his house in Pruksa Village, Bang Khu Wat Subdistrict, Mueang Pathum Thani District, Pathum Thani Province, on February 1, 2023, for the offence of jointly commit serious offences relating to narcotics in accordance with the Narcotics Code, B.E.2564(2021), and jointly commit money laundering offence under the Anti-Money Laundering Act, B.E. 2542(1999).

       Subsequently, on February 2, 2023, Mr. Thappasan, the alleged offender under the Criminal Court’s Arrest Warrant No. 447/2565 of the same special case, surrendered himself to special case inquiry officials for the offence of jointly commit serious offences relating to narcotics and money laundering. The special case inquiry officials brought the two alleged offenders to the criminal court for detention on the next day (February 3, 2023) at 08.30 hrs., and the alleged offenders requested to be released on bail set at 500,000 baht each.

         This is in response to the 31 March 2022 raid on houses related to a drug syndicate in the Special Case No. 32/2564, by the DSI operations force with the cooperation of the police officers of Mae Sai and Chiang Saen Provincial Police, Chiang Rai Province. The court has issued arrest warrants for three alleged offenders, which are Mr. Khomkrit, Mr. Thappasan and Mr. Mana or ‘Bank’ who has escaped to Myanmar. The DSI is in the process of coordinating international cooperation for his extradition.
