According to the Cabinet's resolution, 5 key measures have been designated for relevant agencies to strictly enforce laws/regulations to prevent and suppress illegal foreign goods and businesses. This aims to solve the problem of imported goods lacking quality and standards, thereby protecting consumers from potential harm. Police Major Yutthana Praedam, Director General of the Department of Special Investigation, assigned Police Lieutenant Colonel Anurak Rojananirankit, Director of the Consumer Protection Crime Bureau, Lieutenant Pachaphol Supanitchawaraphat, Head of the Consumer Protection Crime Division 1, and officers of the Consumer Protection Crime Bureau to collaborate with officials of the Thai Industrial Standards Institute (TISI). The team discovered that entrepreneurs were selling lithium-ion batteries for use with power tools such as electric drills and chainsaws without the Thai Industrial Standard (TIS) mark to the public through online platforms. This led to the initiation of the investigation case no. 138/2567.
On 18 December 2024, DSI officers and TISI officials executed the search warrants issued by the Phra Pradaeng Provincial Court at 4 large warehouses located in Ban Khlong Suan Subdistrict, Phra Samut Chedi District, Samut Prakan Province. The search revealed batteries with power tools, power adapters, and high-pressure water jets, totaling 37,593 items with a total value of 61,779,200 baht. None of these products had the TIS mark. All items were seized, and computers and documents were confiscated for investigation regarding offence under the Industrial Product Standards Act, B.E.2511 (1968), the Customs Act, B.E. 2560 (2017), and other relevant laws.
This legal actions are preventing and suppressing illegal foreign goods and businesses to address the issue of substandard imported goods to protect consumer from potential harm. Strong Collaboration with all sectors is a key policy of Police Major Yutthana Praedam, Director General of the DSI, to support the policies of the government and the Ministry of Justice. This aims to boost confidence in the prevention, suppression, investigation, and inquiry of cases under the DSI's responsibility, ensuring sustainable organizational management according to good governance principles.
